The hotel was built in 1951, and bears the name of the National Hero of Cuba: José Martí. From the rooms, you can observe the city, and in "La Fama", the bar-terrace of the installation, you can rest and relax after touring the streets of the city.
On weekends, in this same place, musical events that are very popular among Guantanamo people are held. In the restaurant of the Hotel Martí the "Ajiaco Baracoano" is served (meat-broth soups), a typical dish of the area.
Surely you will hear more than in other regions of Cuba the famous song "La Guantanamera", because it is inspired by the women of this city. Guantánamo is known, also, locally for its cocoa and coconut.
A few blocks away, you can enjoy the rich local culture in the Casa del Changüí (a Cuban musical genre native to this region), in the Tomb of the French Pompadour (style of dance, singing and percussion, brought to Cuba by the slaves Haitians at the beginning of the 19th century), and at the Casa de la Trova.
